MDX querying via drag-and-drop
At its core, Pyramid's bioXL analytics and bioPoint dashboarding tools are applications
for writing MDX queries against the Microsoft BI stack via a simple drag-and-drop, point-and-click end user
interface. What makes such tools powerful is the ability to articulate and
deliver exceptionally complex and sophisticated query constructs through simple
steps; intuitive wizards; and, interfaces that mask the difficulty of writing such
queries if they were done manually by end users.
- bioXL brings advanced querying capabilities to the
end user and extends the functionality of both multi-dimensional and tabular OLAP
cubes delivered from Analysis Services by solving numerous querying headaches that
should only be resolved in the reporting tool, rather than in the cube database
itself. For instance, bioXL delivers:
- Client defined custom member and set calculations which allow end users to define
their own calculations without the need to constantly change cube definitions.

- End user defined Advanced Set scripts that allow the formulation of non-linear logic
(like market basket analysis)
- Parameterized queries that simplify deployment of sophisticated reports and runtime
choices to business users without the complexity of SDK programming of interface
manipulations.

- bioPoint brings rapid multi-querying and cross-database
capabilities to the end user and extends the functionality of both multi-dimensional
and tabular OLAP cubes delivered from Analysis Services by providing an interface
for joining data-points on multiple queries in a single interface and for seamlessly
integrating 3rd party content. For instance, bioPoint delivers:
- a dashboard designing tool that allows users to inject runtime selections
from one query into one or more other queries through a simple line drawing
exercise.

- A super simple process for bringing independent 3rd party content onto the same canvas
as analytic content and providing an incredibly intuitive mechanism to join the
data between these types of content.

DAX, BISM and Tabular Cubes
Pyramid builds its query models using MDX. This MDX is automatically converted into
a DAX query when tabular cubes and/or BISM models in both PowerPivot and SQL Server
2012 Tabular are used as the data source.
The result is seamless interchangeability between classic multi-dimensional cubes
(based on the 'UDM') and the newer tabular cube models (based on 'BISM') in the
Microsoft BI stack. Importantly, all the calculation and reporting horsepower available
to end users via Pyramid's client tools are extended into the DAX realm and afford
a richer, comprehensive BI deployment model in enterprises.
