Decision Intelligence Digest: January 2023

Hello, and welcome to the January 2023 edition of the Decision Intelligence Digest!

It’s a new year, and we’re thinking about … data and analytics! It seems that in every corner, both are in a state of revolution. The role that data (and the tech to harness it) plays in our daily lives—especially our professional lives—is growing, and the potential value behind this revolution is hard to fathom if only we can embrace it. (Here’s a great McKinsey Podcast on the topic.)

Let’s take SAP as an example. When five visionaries from IBM founded SAP in 1972, they could not have imagined how successful their idea would become or how fundamentally the business world would change over subsequent years. Today, SAP is one of the most important data companies in the world, and businesses across the globe depend on it to run their day-to-day operations efficiently and intelligently. SAP thrives because they’ve continually embraced change.

Finance, too, is in a state of upheaval. The role that finance—and financial data—plays in any given organization is much different today than it was 10 years ago, and it will continue to evolve drastically over the next decade. The influence that data has over the decisions organizations make will only grow.

For example, here’s Gartner on the topic:

Finance Transformation and redesigning the finance function is a top priority right now. The incorporation of new technology and data into finance processes has the potential to elevate the function into a real-time provider of strategic insights and data for a business.
